According to Chicago Police, human remains have been found within a freezer on the city's far northwest side.

According to the Chicago Tribune, CPD officers responded to a well-being check on North Washtenaw Avenue around 7 p.m. Monday. The owner of the West Ridge house, who rented the rooms out had been missing for approximately 24 hours, the tenant who called police told them.

The tenant also told CPD that the other tenants were scared of one of the other tenants who lived there. That individual has been the focus of the investigation.

CPD Detectives discovered bloody rags and towels within a garbage can and secured the scene.

Based on that evidence, CPD detectives returned to the scene with a search warrant and located human remains within a freezer.

“It’s a lot of information, it’s all happening at the same time, and obviously it’s still an active investigation,” Chicago Police Department Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said at a news conference Tuesday.
