3-Vehicle Monday Crash on I-94 Kills One
A fatal 3-car crash shut down traffic on southbound I-94 near Dundee Road in Northbrook, near Highland Park Monday at approximately 12:30pm.
State police said they were called to the scene in the southbound lanes of the Edens Expressway around 12:30 p.m. near milepost 30 at Dundee Road near Route 41, close to the mall where La Fitness & Guitar Center are located.
Three vehicles were found at the scene, with one of them being off the roadway with severe damage, according to the Lake County Coroner's office.
An occupant of one of the cars — identified as Martin Maldonado-Velazquez, 60, of Waukegan — was rushed to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital, where he died in the emergency room.
An autopsy determined he died of blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, according to the Coroner's office.
Traffic was snarled for hours in the southbound direction of I-94 following the crash as investigators investigated & cleared the wreckage from the scene.
No official word on the cause has been released as of yet.
