Charles Leto, 55, has been charged with one count each of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the shooting of two teenagers at Douglass Park on Chicago's West Side.
Leto is a reportedly a lifeguard & pool supervisor at the park.
The incident happened around 7pm Thursday near the pool and basketball court in the 1500 block of South Sacramento Street, moments after the pool closed, when Leto shot the two teens as they came close to him as he appeared to be working on his bicycle on the sidewalk.
The 14-year-old was shot in the neck, and the
15-year-old was shot in the back, police said. Both were taken to
Stroger Hospital in serious condition.The 15-year-old has died while the 14-year-old is still in the hospital.
Leto has been charged and booked at Cook County jail and remains in custody pending a court hearing this coming week.
