Caldwell Woods Warming Shelter Coming Winter 2023

Cook County Forest Preserve location Caldwell Woods will be undergoing renovations to their visitor center building this summer, leading to a portion of the parking lot being fenced off as well as possibly not having permits issued for park activities, according to Forest Preserve Police who were spoken to.

The renovations and new building are expected to begin in the late spring, run thru the summer and be completed by winter.

The Forest Preserve Police who were interviewed for this article informed me that various permits and plans are in place, and that the fencing would remain up for the entirety of the summer season.

The budget for the proposed warming center is apparently set, and it's just a matter of moving forward with the proposed plans and the extent of the disruption to the park remains to be seen as the parking lot will remain approximately 50% fenced off during the projects' duration, expected to last until winter of 2023.

Permits for using the park may be restricted, depending on how much the construction gets in the way of the park as well.
