The LA Fitness on Touhy in Niles Has Been Linked to at least 2 cases of the potentially deadly lung disease.
The locker rooms & workout areas remain open for business as usual, leaving some members concerned.
I spoke to the clubs' GM, Aamir who told me the source of the bacteria was the men's hot tub, and it was 2 individuals. He was not sure if the individuals brought the bacteria into the club or if it got in there another way. He further stated that as of now, the steam rooms, showers & pool area are closed for further cleaning & disinfecting procedures are complete and tests
come back negative.
A member who wished to remain anonymous told me she was concerned for the older crowd, many of whom come in the am, possibly before any LA staff have had a chance to do any cleaning after the steam & saunas are left off for the night.
Disinfection and cleaning procedures are under way and all the wet areas including the pool, sauna, steam rooms and showers are to remain closed until the cleaning/disinfecting procedures are completed and the club gets a clean bill of health.
