Maine East District 207 Wins U.S. Department Of Enrgy Award
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized District 207 for the award, one of 17 across the country and the only one in Illinois such awarded.
The DOE awarded K-12 schools that worked to substantially reduce their energy performance & indoor air quality. School districts could achieve this by utilizing latest technology to increase efficiency & lowering emissions.
"It's really an honor to be recognized," said Mary Kalou, District 207 Assistant Superintendent for Business. "As we did the planning for the facilities master plan, energy efficiency, savings & sustainability were all part of the requirement we wanted to achieve. Getting this award recognizes those efforts."
The improvements were installing LED lighting, occupancy sensors, energy efficient equipment, low water pressure flush valves, along with improving air quality for students in all three district buildings.
The district-wide improvements were made possible in large part due to the referendum passed by District 207 voters in the November, 2018 election.
