CWB is reporting that Ashawn Davis died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office found.
The manner of his death has been recorded as “undetermined,” meaning investigators were unable to conclude whether he shot himself or someone else shot him.
Chicago police officers responded to an apartment in the 6000 block of North Kenmore around 8:18 p.m. on August 11, where they found Ashawn with a gunshot wound to his head.
Chicago Police Department (CPD) investigators discovered that several other males, primarily teenage boys, were present in the room at the time of Ashawn’s shooting. At least one person told police that Ashawn had shot himself, but a gun was not found at the scene, according to an initial report. There was one shell casing recovered and one bullet hole in the ceiling was observed.
