German Campos Jr., 24, identified himself as the robber in all six robberies, with the FBI currently charging him with two of the armed holdups.
The FBI says Campos Jr. usually displayed a gun and demanded cash, with one of the holdups netting him over 16k in cash.
The FBI agent spoken to alleged that on June 13, Campos entered U.S. Bank, 536 South York, in Elmhurst, and put a backpack on the teller counter while holding a gun.
“Give me all your money,” he told the teller moments before running out with $4,925 of the bank’s cash, according to the FBI.
He got away with even more money when he robbed the U.S. Bank at 8500 West Dempster in Niles on August 28, according to the criminal complaint filed in Federal Court.
Campos allegedly entered the U.S. Bank branch just after 9 a.m., ordered the bank staff to fill his backpack with cash, and then forced the employees and a customer into a safety deposit box vault. Video allegedly showed he tried, but failed to close the vault door as he left. The FBI has claimed he escaped with $16,320.
A surveillance camera at a nearby McDonald’s recorded the bank robber as he repeatedly circled and loitered in the area before the robbery. Investigators traced the car to Campos and determined that his state ID photo looked a lot like the robber, according to the complaint.
Furthermore, while executing a search warrant at his home on September 17, FBI agents allegedly found an unusual sweatshirt and other items worn by the bank robber. His phone location data also placed him near the robbery scenes, according to the FBI.
The Federal complaint has also linked Campos to bank robberies in Schaumburg in October 2023 and March 2024, Elmhurst last December, and Park Ridge on August 9.
Campos in currently being held in jail pending a court hearing.
