Indya Smith, 23, from the Uptown neighborhood, will be in court at 26th and California for a detention hearing on Friday afternoon, police said.
Details of the shooting have been listed as follows:
At about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, Smith allegedly spat at the 33-year-old male victim and
began an argument before firing her gun one time, police said shortly
after the incident. The victim was shot in the left shoulder and was listed in
fair condition at St. Francis Hospital.
Another CTA passenger was able to pin Smith on the train and detain her for about 20
minutes until police figured out which train they were on. Several
trains were stopped between stations near Thorndale, and a number of
passengers on the train where the shooting occurred fled onto the
elevated tracks while the third rail was electrified, leading to
significant confusion among first responders, according to authorities familiar with the situation.
CPD said officers recovered a firearm at the shooting scene.
