CWB Chicago is reporting that the man police believe is responsible for fatally stabbing his wife
in Portage Park on Tuesday afternoon was later found dead inside a
parked car near the attack site.
According to CWB, court records show that prosecutors had asked a
judge to keep the 57-year-old man in custody last month after they charged
him with kidnapping and aggravated domestic battery by strangulation,
but the judge, Thomas Nowinski, rejected their request.
The man, who has not been publicly identified by officials, was
arraigned on a five-count true bill related to the October allegations this past Monday morning, according to court records and now the wife and he are both dead.
According to CWB, at approximately 2:25pm Wednesday, an off-duty CPD detective saw a man stabbing a woman in the 5600 block of west Leland, and intervened by firing at the attacker. The officer apparently suffered a graze wound to his leg, but no details on if the offender returned fire or of the officer was injured but his own gun.
The attacker then fled the scene and was later found deceased in a car in the 5500 block of west Leland, from an apparent gunshot wound to his shoulder. No word on if the wound was from the Officers' gun or if the wound was self-inflicted.
