According to Lake County Scanner, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s
Office responded around 3:13 p.m. Sunday to the area of Route 14 and
Dean Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries and
entrapment.

Emergency crews were advised while en route of a multi-vehicle
collision, with reports of one vehicle possibly on fire and multiple
individuals trapped, according to Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public
Information Officer Alex Vucha.

According to authorities, a Mercedes Benz SUV, driven by 33-yr-old Abuzar Zaidi, of Elgin, attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle and collided head-on with a Toyota SUV, driven by a 43-year-old Cross Plains, Wisconsin man who was left with critical, life-threatening injuries.

A 43-year-old woman, a Cross Plains, Wisconsin resident and a passenger in the Toyota, was transported with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.

Two passengers in the Toyota, an 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were both flown to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Mr. Zaidi was ejected from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene, apparently he was not wearing a seatbelt. A 6-year-old boy who was in the Mercedes-Benz and wearing his seatbelt suffered critical, life-threatening injuries. The boy was Abuzar Zaidi's son.
