Plainfield Man sentenced to 53 years in prison for Attack Leaving Boy Dead
The brutal knife attack happened in Plainfield in October of 2023, leaving 6-year-old Mahmoud Yousef dead and his mother severely injured.
Czuba told responding officers he attacked them because of their Muslim faith and he had become agitated watching coverage of the then new Hamas-Israel events over in Palestine and Israel.
Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak sentenced Czuba to 30 years in the boy's death and another 20 years consecutively for the attack on Shaheen. The judge also sentenced him to three years imprisonment for hate crimes.
Czuba did not speak at all during Friday's sentencing, nor did his attorney offer any comment.
The boy's great-uncle, Mohmoud Yousef, was the only family member who spoke during the hearing. He said that no matter the sentence length it wouldn't be enough. He also directly asked Czuba why he did this and what could have possibly driven him to commit such an act, but Czuba did not answer.
The consecutive nature of the sentences all but virtually guarantees the 73-year-old Czuba will die behind bars.
