A 22-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a Chicago police officer who was slain while off-duty and heading home from work, according to CPD.
Xavier L. Tate Jr., of Chicago was taken into custody Wednesday evening, and is facing charges of First degree murder of a Peace Officer in the highly publicized shooting death of 30 year old CPD Officer Luis M. Huesca last week.
Officer Huesca was in uniform but wearing a jacket to cover the uniform as
is customary for off-duty officers, CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling said.
Huesca,
who was a six-year veteran of the police department, was found outside him home with
gunshot wounds. His vehicle was taken, but police have
not confirmed whether the shooting was part of a carjacking.
Hundreds of people lined the streets Monday for a funeral procession for Huesca, who was laid to rest following church services in Chicago.
