Glenview Man Charged in Park Ridge Carjacking

Police have charged 40-year-old Tomasz J. Kalembasa, of Glenview with one felony charge of vehicular hijacking.

The incident is alleged to have happened around 9pm on October 27, in the 1200 block of Northest Highway in Park Ridge, according to police.

According to authorities, the alleged victim was sitting in his gold 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan when
Kalembasa allegedly opened the door and demanded the vehicle. When the
victim refused, Kalembasa walked away toward the street while
the victim followed and called 911.

Police said the two then got
into a struggle before Kalembasa allegedly entered then the victim's vehicle
and fled the scene, heading southeast on Northwest Highway.

The victim was taken to Lutheran General Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

On Tuesday, Park Ridge police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kalembasa, who was taken into custody without incident. No word on where he was taken into custody.

Kalembasa remains in custody as he awaits his initial court appearance, which will determine if he is granted pre-trial release or if he remains in custody pending trial.
