Oak Park Police Officer Shot Killed Suspect in Custody

40-year-old Detective Allan Reddins was gunned down while on duty around 9am on November 30, by Jerell Thomas, 37, of Chicago, according to authorities.

The shooting happened outside a Chase Bank location in the 800 block of Lake street, at approximately 9am Saturday.

Officer Reddins was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was shot in the leg and also taken to Loyola, where he remains under police custody.

Thomas faces charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, possession  of a stolen firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in connection with the shooting, police said. No word on when charges will be upgraded to murder.
